What Does NIEW-CPT Mean?

NIEW-CPT stands for NIEW Certified Personal Trainer. The credential is earned by completing the educational program and passing the NIEW Certification Examination. The goal is not simply to put letters after your name — it is to build the knowledge behind them.

Designed for Future Personal Trainers

Previous professional fitness experience isn't required to begin the NIEW program. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high-school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

A Foundation You Can Build On

The curriculum provides a broad professional foundation and introduces areas that may shape your future specialty, including strength and muscle development, athletes, bodybuilders, fitness competitors, older adults, weight management, online training, and more.

Learn

Study exercise science, assessment, program design, safety, nutrition within professional scope, client communication, and business skills.

Demonstrate

Pass the NIEW Certification Examination. Specific exam structure will reflect the revised Second Edition program.

Continue

Maintain the credential through continuing education and applicable membership requirements.

Where Can You Take Your Certification?

Graduates may pursue opportunities in gyms, health clubs, fitness studios, private training facilities, recreation and wellness settings, or other environments where the NIEW-CPT meets the applicable requirements. Personal training can also provide a path toward independent training and building a business of your own.
